FIELD TRIPS

All programs will take place virtually during the 2021-2022 school year.

First time volunteering? Please follow these steps!

  • Sign up for "Fully Programmed: Working with Students Training" on the Volunteer Sign-Up Calendar (if you haven't yet completed it).
  • Read our Volunteer Handbook, paying particular attention to our Virtual Programming Guidelines on page 23.
  • Sign our Digital Program Agreement & National Volunteer Guidelines.
  • Once you've completed Fully Programmed, you can start working with our students – virtually! You can find virtual volunteer opportunities on our Volunteer Sign-Up Calendar, on the "Online Learning Lab" tab.

Feel free to check out our Volunteer Touchstones: Connecting with students, a document to help guide you in navigating conversations with students about current events.

About Field Trips

On weekday mornings, during non-pandemic times, classes from around southeastern Michigan come by bus or on foot to visit our writing centers for a few hours of high-energy learning. During the 2021-22 school year, we are harnessing the same excitement and anticipation with our virtual field trips as students have when boarding an actual bus for an in-person field trip. With our virtual field trips, we are co-creating a space where students and volunteers are transported to new worlds via their imaginations.
